Black Nile Barley is rich in vitamins and minerals and is dark purple in color. The color comes from an antioxidant anthocyanin, the same powerful compound found in red beets and purple cabbage.
Barley was one of the first cultivated grains and is used for baking, added to soup or stews, or as a side dish. Cooked barley has a slightly chewy texture with a nutty flavor similar to brown rice. Use it like risotto and bring a complex look and flavor to your dish.
Barley can be ground into flour or sprouted, dried, and ground into flour (Malted) and combined with other flours to give your baked goods a rich flavor and add color to the product.
Enjoy this ancient grain and reap the health benefits of this beautiful grain.
